    motorcycle tires
  • Motorcycle tyres provide the only contact with the ground, via the contact patch under normal conditions, and so have a very large influence over motorcycle handling characteristics. Motorcycle tyres have a round cross section to facilitate the leaning necessary when a motorcycle turns.

This Bristol RELH with Leyland 0.680 engine carried the felicitous early style of ECW coach body with Lodekka-type radiator grille. It had been the first of a batch of coaches added to the Bristol Omnibus Co's "Bristol Greyhound" coaching fleet for the beginning of the 1968 season. In accordance with the usual BOC policy all were downgraded to "dual-purpose" status at the time of their first recertification overhauls at seven years. In 1977 however, late deliveries of new coaches forced the Company to repaint the entire batch and put it back into service on National Express duties. This example was finally returned to dual-purpose livery in March 1979. It was photographed entering Swindon Bus Station on Thursday 1st November 1979.

The drone of fluorescent lights.

The drone of fluorescent lights.

Trying to wrap things up as next week is getting crammed from a social perspective.

Opera on Tuesday. (Harris Theater - Double billing of Bela Bartok 's Duke Bluebeard's Castle and Arnold Schonberg's Erwartung (Expectation). Samuel Ramey sings the title role of Bartok's lonely Bluebeard who ultimately kills his Judith. Ken Cazan directs, Alexander Platt conducts. In Erwartung, Soprano Nancy Gustafson is the only character in the haunting melodrama). Excited as these are pretty close to the best seats in the house.

The Duhks at Schubas on Thursday. This is a band I saw at Merlefest that does a little bit of Celtic, a little bit of Bluegrass, a little Blues, and was just fantastic to watch. They have a new lead singer who just blew me away. I hope they deliver here as well as they did in North Carolina. Fellow Chicagoans - you should really try to make this show.

Theatre Saturday - "Pulp" - About Face Theatre at Victory Gardens Greenhouse. (In this hat-tip to lesbian pulp fiction, Thebus's cast shrewdly plays at once hyper-camp and (insert meaningful look here) strictly straight. With every double entendre, head swivel and sideways glance, these women snag laughs by making a real cool-like play for them. After an indiscreet how-do-ya-do with the general's daughter, WWII vet Terry Logan rides the rails to Chicago, here the chipper Pepper enlists her into a new kind of service: serving drinks at a bar for women loving women. As Logan gets wedged between lipstick-lesbian Bing and "straight" bar owner Vivian, playwright Kane adheres to the pulp manual in which secrets can be seen coming like the express train and arrive just as punctually. in the end, every femme gets her butch. In About Face's remount, Thebus shows off a fine knack for the tangy voiced genre, as do Warren and Andre Pluess's cabaret tunes. The water treading middle could kick up some splashes with a more suspenseful plot )or just more plot); while the dialogue delivers when reveling in the silly-serious genre, it often stops at a standstill to flatly relay info. But as with pulp itself, it's less the writing's nuances we admire than its titillations. Nearly as the tough-as-nails Logan, Bevan as the tough-as-glossy-red-fingernails Bing, and Dworkin and Kane as the bartender and her drag king, respectively, all have a (turn head, shoot look) gay old time. But the sight of Warern's world-weary Vivian leaning against a doorsill with her head tossed back - that's reason enough to imbibe this Pulp) (Time Out review)

I'm starting to love living in the city. Of course, after flipping through Time Out on the train this morning, I've got about 8,000,0000,000 shows and events I want to schedule now. Sadly, there's just not enough days for that. Or money.

LOTF Friday 11th July 2008 - Sheep Dip - The Lovedays making a lot of noise!

LOTF Friday 11th July 2008 - Sheep Dip - The Lovedays making a lot of noise!

The Lovedays are a four-piece band from the Medway/Maidstone areas of Kent in England.

They formed out of the embers of Carters England, featuring the songwriting prowess of Ben Jones, the rhythmic pulse of Samuel Jacques, glued together by guitarist Jason Crispe and bass player Steve Huggins. Their debut EP "When The Lights Went Out", was released in September 2007 and their self-produced eponymous first album was released in January 2008.

Loveday music is a throwback of 60s melody and values with a current attitude; Beach Boys harmonies, Beatley arrangements, Who-like energy. That Californian 60s West Coast sound spun in with Swinging London. - an apocalyptic mish-mash of melodic harmony and intricate arrangements

Lounge on The Farm success
(posted by ben on 15-07-2008)

Well folks, Lounge was another great outing for us. The best festival of the year, amazing line up of diverse acts over 6 stages, we were honoured to be there.

We had a great turnout, about 250 or so on the opening day of the festival. Big Kudos to Chris Gymer and Tom Palmar for great work at the sound board. Thanks to everyone who came to see us. Reviews will be up soon.

Highlights of the festival for me were:

The great "Billy Wears Dresses" - great band, brilliant songs, inspiring to see another band making songs and performance most important.

Holly Golightly - superb songs, really great broke down set up.

Larry Jon Wilson - the absolute highlight. Simply breathtaking, engaging performance, cant praise this man enough. Check him out. The looming presence of Johnny Cash with such a unique personality.

Scott Brunger - The highlight of the folly stage. great original songs, wicked performance. Opening for us on our upcoming dates, really looking forward to hearing more of his songs.

Thats it for now, am still so tired from the weekend, brain not working quite right!

Again, thanks to all for continual support, hope to see you at some of the upcoming gigs.

Ben

Assassination Vacation

Assassination Vacation

I take the Metra in to work every day, and it's about an hour each way. I often tuck a paperback into my purse or briefcase and read - leafing through the pages letting my mind wander as the snowy landscape drifts past.

Today, I finished Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation. I'm laying in bed and honestly too tired to type out a review so I'll just cheat and copy/paste one from Publishers Weekly. It was an o.k. read - there were parts that amused me a great deal - especially the tidbits about her nephew. The historical anecdotes were interesting, but on a whole it was lacking somewhat. It was easy reading though... and I would still recommend it (though there are few books I would suggest people pass by altogether). Last week I finished Love in the Time of Cholera - a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, and I liked it a great deal - though not nearly as much as One Hundred Years of Solitude.

From Publishers Weekly
What do you get when a woman who's obsessed with death and U.S. history goes on vacation? This wacky, weirdly enthralling exploration of the first three presidential assassinations. Vowell (The Partly Cloudy Patriot), a contributor to NPR's This American Life and the voice of teenage superhero Violet Parr in The Incredibles, takes readers on a pilgrimage of sorts to the sites and monuments that pay homage to Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley, visiting everything from grave sites and simple plaques (like the one in Buffalo that marks the place where McKinley was shot) to places like the National Museum of Health and Medicine, where fragments of Lincoln's skull are on display. An expert tour guide, Vowell brings into sharp focus not only the figures involved in the assassinations, but the social and political circumstances that led to each-and she does so in the witty, sometimes irreverent manner that her fans have come to expect. Thus, readers learn not only about how Garfield found himself caught between the Stalwarts and the Half-Breeds, bitterly divided factions of the Republican party, but how his assassin, Charles Guiteau, a supporter of the Stalwarts and an occasional member of the Oneida Community, "was the one guy in a free love commune who could not get laid." Vowell also draws frequent connections between past events and the present, noting similarities between McKinley's preemptive war against Cuba and the Philippines and the current war in Iraq. This is history at its most morbid and most fascinating and, fortunately, one needn't share Vowell's interest in the macabre to thoroughly enjoy this unusual tour.

Goodnight !

Goodnight !

Last one from me on this subject , and I include the review of the show from the Manchester Evening News by Stuart Greer

Muse
Lancashire County Cricket Club
September 4, 2010

Teignmouth trio Muse have travelled a long way from their early days as a band written off as Radiohead mimics.

They persevered, adding rich new layers to their sound, creating a mix of angular garage pop and face melting prog rock, all with a classical and operatic grandeur.

Tonight’s 21 track salute to an ever-more impressive back catalogue starts big with the spooky synthesised Uprising before launching into the industrial rock of Supermassive Black Hole.

Much of the next two hours is taken from their brilliant last three LPs with nostalgic nods to older but still relevant songs like fan favourite New Born.

Hysteria, United States Of Eurasia and Starlight are huge winners, as is the formidable piece of energetic rock that is Time Is Running Out.

Amid the visual onslaught Muse always look like they are having a great time, Bellamy wandering into every corner of the massive stage, relishing his rock posturing, while Chris Wolstenholme and Dom Howard thump the bass and drums as if it were their last ever gig.

Muse pride themselves on giving fans a mind-blowing and theatrical show, which could prove relentless and tiring, such is the assault on your senses, the timely Exogenesis: Symphony Part 1, which take things down a level before one final barrage starting with the unapologetic power pop of Plug In Baby and finally the epic, rip roaring rock opera Knights Of Cydonia.

If there is one word to describe Muse it’s grandiose.

Tonight we get the whole package – a lavish, and I mean unbelievably lavish, stage comprising of a dominating Orwellian governmental structure straight out of the pages of 1984, a circular platform which rises up and out into the crowd like a UFO, a lighting show which must’ve put the National Grid on its knees, and rock so vociferous, so volcanic, ears will be ringing for a very, very long time.

It really is impossible to find a fault with this type of performance, other than wishing it had gone on for longer.

Muse showed why they have been consistently a level higher than any other British rock band in the past six years.

They have style, substance, songs, and the right amount of self-belief to want to strive to keep getting better. Phenomenal.

Says it all for me , Paul.
